Commercial Litigation

We are highly experienced commercial litigation lawyers. We recognise that business can be complicated and even the most well intentioned relationships can lead to complex and lengthy disputes. If that occurs, it is important to be guided by a sound strategy and clear and concise advice. We provide that. We will act as your trusted advisers and, if necessary, fierce advocates. However, we have close relationships with many of New Zealand’s leading barristers and can recommend appropriate counsel when required.

We act for shareholders, directors and other individuals as well as small through to large businesses. We are equally adept at bringing proceedings as we are at defending litigation brought against you. Our small, focussed teams means we can adapt as the case develops and respond quickly where necessary. That might mean seeking urgent interim relief such as an injunction or changing tack to ensure you stay one step ahead.

The types of claims we are involved in are numerous and varied. We are frequently instructed on company and shareholder disputes, including directors duties, derivative actions and post-acquisition disputes. We act on a wide variety of contractual disputes involving sectors ranging from primary industries through to financial services. We represent clients in joint venture disputes, consumer claims, partnership disputes and many more. We act in professional negligence claims and have experience in media and defamation disputes. In short, there are very few areas of law that we have not touched upon at some point in our collective experience.

We recognise that litigation is expensive. That is why we have close working relationships with both domestic and international litigation finance providers who may be able to help fund your case.

Our lawyers are also regularly called on to be appointed as independent solicitors by the courts to supervise the execution of search orders and report to the court.
