Public Law and Regulatory
We have a deep knowledge of central government, local government and the public sector including regulators across industries. This includes an understanding of how they work, make decisions, and respond to challenges. We act both for these entities and against them on a variety of public law disputes, and we also advise on policy and strategy in the interaction between them.
We regularly advise local authorities, large commercial entities, incorporated societies and public interest groups in bringing and defending applications for judicial review. We have been involved in defending bylaws, consents and other rights. We have also acted for parties seeking to challenge decisions made by public bodies such as councils and regulators. We have experience defending claims brought by regulators including the Commerce Commission.
We have helped clients navigate complex and lengthy investigations and compulsory interviews and have successfully defended prosecutions should a matter go to court.
